Job Description

A TASSCO machinist sets up and operates conventional, special purpose, CNC and Numerical Control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic parts.

Required skills

Read and interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints
Reads and interprets schematic drawings, diagrams, blueprints, specifications, work orders, or reports to determine materials requirements or assembly instructions
Reads and interprets technical drawings of parts and assemblies with tolerances and basic Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Interpret Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing symbols applied to Industry Drawings
Work with fractions, decimals and percentages.
Solve problems involving ratios, proportions, and percentages
Operates a CNC lathe or turning center
Sets up, operates and maintains computer numerically controlled (CNC) lathe and related tooling
Calculate the tooling, coordinates, and toolpaths necessary to machine the part on a CNC lathe
Uses basic lathe construction including single point tool geometry; high-speed and carbide tool applications; lathe operations, including, turning, facing, grooving, boring, drilling, reaming, threading, taper turning, knurling and cut-off; and safety
Examines, measures, and weighs materials or products to verify conformance to specifications, using measuring devices, such as rulers, micrometers, or scales
Repairs dies, tools, jigs, and fixtures determining dimensions and tolerances
Sets up and operates machine tools to repair or fabricate machine parts, fixtures, or tools
Aligns, fits, assembles, connects, or installs system components, using jigs, fixtures, measuring instruments, hand tools, or power tools
Sets up and operates machines, such as lathes, cutters, shears, borers, millers, grinders, presses, drills, or auxiliary machines, to make metallic and plastic workpieces
Sets up and operates conventional or computer numerically controlled machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, or grinders to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes
Sets up and operates lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts
Checks cutting operation and make adjustments as required to maintain specifications
Adjusts production equipment to meet and maintain production specifications
Performs routine machine maintenance and repair minor damages
Monitors equipment performance; reports problems and requests required maintenance to avoid unnecessary downtime and machine damage or repairs
Moves material to and from machine using forklifts, transporters, cranes, pallet jacks
Cleans and maintains machinery, equipment, and work areas to ensure proper functioning and safe working conditions
Identify protective clothing and equipment and their proper use, proper shop behavior, principles of fire safety, and federal regulations concerning hazardous material and shop safety

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
