- Completes all calibration and documentation associated with testing and repairs
- Connects regulators to test stands, and turn screw adjustments until gauges indicate that inlet and outlet pressures meet specifications
- Works closely with co-workers, management and safety coordinator to ensure compliance with OSHA and other safety regulations
- Follows all schematics and documented procedures in accordance with all Quality Control and ASME National Board standards that apply to the job
- Traces and tags meters or house lines
- Tests valves and regulators per manufacturers specifications
- Tests valves and regulators for leaks and accurate temperature and pressure settings, using precision testing equipment
- Installs, inspects and tests electric meters, relays, and power sources to detect causes of malfunctions and inaccuracies, using hand tools and testing equipment
- Installs proper size and types of fuses for each circuit
- Examines valves or mechanical control device parts for defects, dents, or loose attachments, and mark malfunctioning areas of defective units
- Cleans plant growth, scale, paint, soil, or rust from meter housings, using wire brushes, scrapers, buffers, sandblasters, or cleaning compounds
- Calibrates thermostats for specified temperature or pressure settings
- Reassembles repaired equipment, and solders top, front, and back case panels in place, using soldering guns, power tools, and hand tools
- Cleans internal components and moving parts
- Reports hazardous field situations and damaged or missing meters
- Disconnects or removes defective or unauthorized meters, using hand tools
- Connecting and setting switches, receptacles, plates, etc.
- Testing the circuit for grounds and shorts and locating and correcting job defects
- Makes adjustments to meter components, such as setscrews or timing mechanisms, so that they conform to specifications
- Determines repair requirements for mechanical components by use of technical drawings and various types of measuring equipment
- Reconditions displacement type gas meters and governors, fabricating, machining, or modifying parts needed for repairs
- Clamps regulator units into vises on stages above water tanks, and attach compressed air hoses to intake ports
- Repairs leaks in valve seats or bellows of automotive heater thermostats, using soft solder, flux, and acetylene torches
- Measures tolerances of assembled and salvageable parts for conformance to standards or specifications, using gauges, micrometers, and calipers
- Disconnects defective or unauthorized components
- Assists in the disassembly, repair, and reassembly of valves, cylinders, actuators, pumps and other equipment in the shop or at customer facilities
- Repairs and tests of various valves, including but not limited to ball valves, gate valves, butterfly valves, safety relief valves, etc.
- Record meter readings and installation data on meter cards, work orders, or field service orders, or enter data into hand-held computers
- Lubricates wearing surfaces of mechanical parts, using oils or other lubricants
- Investigates instances of illegal tapping into service lines
- Overhauls and repairs of various types of isolation valves and actuators
- Attaches air hoses to meter inlets, plug outlets, and observe gauges for pressure losses to test internal seams for leaks
- Splices and connects cables from meters or current transformers to pull boxes or switchboards, using hand tools
- Repairs electric meters and components, such as transformers and relays, and replace metering devices, dial glasses, and faulty or incorrect wiring, using hand tools
- Installing and connecting various kinds of fixtures
- Calibrates instrumentation, such as meters, gauges, and regulators, for pressure, temperature, flow, and level
- Records maintenance information, including test results, material usage, and repairs made
- Dismantles meters, and replace or adjust defective parts such as cases, shafts, gears, disks, and recording mechanisms, using soldering irons and hand tools
- Installs regulators and related equipment such as gas meters, odorization units, and gas pressure telemetering equipment
- Cleans external components and moving parts
- Tracing the polarity of conductors and devices
- Connects hoses from provers to meter inlets and outlets, and raise prover bells until prover gauges register zero
- Recommends and writes up specifications for changes in hardware, such as house wiring
- Replaces defective parts, such as bellows, range springs, and toggle switches, and reassemble units according to blueprints, using cam presses and hand tools
- Turns meters on or off to establish or close service
- Attaches pressurized meters to fixtures which submerge them in water, and observes meters for leaks
- Assembles machines, and bolt, weld, solder, rivet, or otherwise fasten them to foundation or other structures, using hand tools and power tools
- Conducts quality control testing and inspection
- Tests high pressure safety relief valves which takes precision and being very aware of the processes and procedures
- Disassembles and repair mechanical control devices or valves, such as regulators, thermostats, or hydrants, using power tools, hand tools, and cutting torches
- Shuts off service and notify repair crews when major repairs are required, such as the replacement of underground pipes or wiring
- Performs service requests as assigned with limited supervision competently
