- Designs and develops training programs; coordinates and trains others in area of assignment to meet the level of the audience
- Coordinates and administers moderately complex and /or intricate environmental program; manages resources; monitors activities; assesses environmental risks and quality control; manages concurrent projects or assignments; and supervises the work of others
- Reviews and evaluates existing data, facilities, and/or systems; collection of data; research of literature and/or consultation with professionals in the field; and/or the evaluation of environmental issues, problems, and new or revised regulations
- Interprets inspection, planning and design results and recommendations effectively to higher-level administrators; implements recommendations. Interprets rules and regulations based on campus inquiries

- Provides engineering advice and technical expertise for regional plans, strategies or policy development and processing of resource consents
- Prepares written, statistical and/or oral reports using a variety of computer software or programming to disseminate or explain information to agency staff, various government or industry officials, or the general public
- Obtains, updates, or maintains plans, permits, or standard operating procedures
- Participates in the development and review of departmental regulations, policies, design standards, and methods relating to the assigned program area to provide professional input to insure they are appropriate and efficient for carrying out departmental functions
- Gives informational talks to various public or private entities or individuals to provide information on environmental programs
- Monitors progress of environmental improvement programs
- Designs, or supervises the design of, systems, processes, or equipment for control, management, or remediation of water, air, or soil quality
- Reads and summarizes technical papers, understands tabular and graphical presentations of data, and translates them for a non-technical audience, for example, translates data from papers published in academic journals into public information materials
- Prepares or presents public briefings on the status of environmental engineering projects
- Develops, implements, or manages plans or programs related to conservation or management of natural resources
- Provides assistance with planning, quality assurance, safety inspection protocols, or sampling as part of a team conducting multimedia inspections at complex facilities
- Meets with various public or private entities or individuals to discuss issues relating to a variety of environmental problems and programs
- Performs engineering review of permit applications, grant applications, engineering and financial reports and designs plans and specifications, standby plans and engineering contracts, integrated waste management plans, and periodic construction inspections, to insure that they comply with applicable state and/or federal regulations and sound engineering practice
- Uses available software to perform research, record keeping, communication (e.g., e[1]mail, word processing programs), data analysis, and interpretation (including simple spreadsheet programs), and reporting tasks
- Prepares, reviews, or updates environmental investigation or recommendation reports
- Develop proposed project objectives and targets and report to management on progress in attaining them
- Utilizes AutoCAD software to correct construction plans depicting the limits of construction and easements and to calculate the total wetland impact
- Undertakes hydraulic analysis and hydrologic modelling of rivers, canals, flood plains, lakes and coastal zones to determine flood risks, and provide appropriate recommendations
- Serves as liaison with federal, state, or local agencies or officials on issues pertaining to solid or hazardous waste program requirements
- Performs environmental tests, procedures and experiments applying and utilizing specialized skills, knowledge and equipment of moderate complexity and/or intricacy; modifies techniques and procedures to meet environmental program objectives
- Provides environmental engineering assistance in network analysis, regulatory analysis, or planning or reviewing database development
- Designs and develops educational materials of moderate complexity or for a specialized area
- Provides technical support for environmental remediation or litigation projects, including remediation system design or determination of regulatory applicability
- Advises industries or government agencies about environmental policies and standards
- Performs technical and professional assignments in the coordination of environmental programs, environmental planning, impact assessment, inspection of environmental facilities or systems, and/or design and conduct scientific studies
- Conducts environmental studies and surveys to gain further information on a particular environmental problem or issue and/or to plan for future environmental needs
- Prepares, maintains, or revises quality assurance documentation or procedures
- Develops site-specific health and safety protocols, such as spill contingency plans or methods for loading or transporting waste
- Informs company employees or other interested parties of environmental issues
- Undertakes professional engineering design, and hydrologic modelling investigations for river schemes, drainage, coastal and soil conservation activities
- Coordinates or manages environmental protection programs or projects, assigning or evaluating work
- Assesses the existing or potential environmental impact of land use projects on air, water, or land
- Develops engineering methodologies and approaches to provide solutions to regional river management and flood risk challenges
- Provide technical support for environmental remediation or litigation projects, including remediation system design or determination of regulatory applicability
- Conducts investigations and inspections of air emission sources, hazardous or solid waste facilities, water supply facilities, industrial and agricultural facilities, pollution sources and proposed and existing site conditions, water resources, and underground storage tanks to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits
- Collaborate with environmental scientists, planners, hazardous waste technicians, engineers, experts in law or business, or other specialists to address environmental problems
- Builds and maintains close working relationships with internal and external contacts including local authorities, ratepayers, landowners, suppliers, consultants, contractors and professional engineering bodies
- Evaluates engineering design plans of existing facilities, refine operational requirements and collaborates with project management for facility overhaul and expansion
- Inspects industrial or municipal facilities or programs to evaluate operational effectiveness or ensure compliance with environmental regulations
