- Pulls extruded fiberglass filaments over sleeves where binding solution is applied, and into grooves of graphite shoes that bind filaments into single strands of sliver

- Pours, scoops, or dumps specified ingredients, metal assemblies, or mixtures into sections of machine prior to starting machines

- Presses metering-pump buttons and turns valves to stop flow of polymers
- Recognizes out-of-specification products, process problems and materials faults
- Operates machinery safely during entire production cycle
- Disassembles equipment to repair it or to replace parts, such as nozzles, punches, and filters
- Mixes paint, ingredients, or chemicals, according to specifications
- Starts metering pumps and observes operation of machines and equipment to ensure continuous flow of filaments extruded through spinnerettes and to detect processing defects
- Records and charts operating and quality data and any required information (ie, Include work orders, labor sheets and timecards).
- Adjusts machine components to regulate speeds, pressures, and temperatures, and amounts, dimensions, and flow of materials or ingredients
- Measures arbors and dies to verify sizes specified on work tickets
- Monitors machine operations and observe lights and gauges in order to detect malfunctions
- Observes plant and department safety rules and reports any unsafe act or conditions to appropriate supervision
- Interpret window, door, cabinet, and fixture information from a floor plan
- Passes sliver strands through openings in floors to workers on floors below who wind slivers onto tubes
- Prepares extrusion equipment and materials supply to meet requirements
- Presses buttons to stop machines when processes are complete or when malfunctions are detected
- Removes excess, entangled, or completed filaments from machines, using hand tools
- Removes polymer deposits from spinnerettes and equipment, using silicone spray, brass chisels, and bronze-wool pads
- Sets up and performs operations per operating procedures to include, inventory verification, proper cutting method, slit width, roll wind direction, tightness, appearance, and length in accordance with product specification
- Utilizes equipment such as micrometers, calipers, and rulers to accurately measure
- Utilizes simple charts/graphs to determine factors such as cutter and speed settings, etc.
- Recognizes routine and non-routine problems
- Lowers pans inside cabinets to catch molten filaments until flow of polymer through packs has stopped
- Feeds products into machines by hand or conveyor

- Operates and uses electric injection molding machines such as servo motor drive systems, ball screw drive mechanism, precision of molding machines and hydraulic pressure vs. plastic pressure-based machinery
- Observes machine operations, control boards, and gauges to detect malfunctions such as clogged bushings and defective binder applicators
- Operates and adjusts the equipment to meet product quality and production output specifications
- Distinguishes between possible causes of routine problems, including raw material variations, equipment malfunctions, die abnormalities/deterioration, and process abnormalities
- Couples air and gas lines to machines to maintain plasticity of material and to regulate solidification of final products
- Reviews work orders, specifications, or instructions to determine materials, ingredients, procedures, components, settings, and adjustments for extruding, forming, pressing, or compacting machines
- Operates injection molding equipment during production cycle
- Sends product samples to laboratories for analysis
- Performs adjustments and minor preventive maintenance on equipment
- Operates equipment and oversee tasks that are automated with machinery and/or robotics such as axis robotics and sprue pickers
- Cleans and maintains extruding and forming machines, using hand tools
- Monitors quality, documents processes and adjustments, and monitors machine settings
- Adjusts machine functions, by turning controls, to regulate air pressure, create vacuums, and adjust coolant flow
- Threads extruded strips through water tanks and hold-down bars, or attach strands to wires and draw them through tubes
- Removes molds, mold components, and feeder tubes from machinery after production is complete
- Operates common types of molds such as two-plate molds, three-plate molds, cold runner terminology and runnerless molds
- Turns rheostats to obtain specified temperatures in electric furnaces where glass is melted
- Removes materials or products from molds or from extruding, forming, pressing, or compacting machines, and stack or store them for additional processing
- Identifies hazards and applies relevant hazard controls
- Notifies other workers of defects, and directs them to adjust extruding and forming machines
- Observes flow of finish across finish rollers, and turns valves to adjust flow to specifications
- Moves controls to activate and adjust extruding and forming machines
- Sets up, operates, or tends machines that extrude and form filaments from synthetic materials such as rayon, fiberglass, or liquid polymers
- Wears required PPE at all times
- Manages any environmental concerns with material removal safely
- Examines, measures, and weighs materials or products to verify conformance to standards, using measuring devices such as templates, micrometers, or scales
