- Uses available software to perform research, record keeping, communication (e.g., e[1]mail, word processing programs), data analysis, and interpretation (including simple spreadsheet programs), and reporting tasks
- Ensures tools are within calibration, serviceable, and perform accordingly
- Identifies specialized tools (e.g., torque wrench, impact wrench, electric and pneumatic drill, special puller, grinder, jack, crane, hoist, hydraulic drill press) needed to repair heavy mobile equipment and vehicles
- Interprets heavy mobile equipment procedures, instructions, and sketches to prepare procedures or checklists for quality control
- Tracks preventative maintenance in a computer database or physical format
- Uses multimeters for analyzing resistance on motors and voltage readings on electrical systems
- Drives trucks to haul tools and equipment for on-site repair of large machinery
- Dismantles defective machines for repair, using hand tools
- Inspects and diagnoses to determine if systems are safe for operation
- Communicates timeline for completion of repairs to ensure excellent customer service
- Disassembles, overhauls, repairs and reassembles engine, transmission, differential, clutch, brake, electrical system, fuel system, and any other part related to material handling or farm equipment
- Ensures company equipment and tools comply with safety and cleanliness standards
- Records details of repairs made and parts used
- Uses feeler gage to measure the gap width between parts or components
- Reads and interprets electrical and hydraulic schematics
- Performs extensive repairs or applies manufacturer approved modifications on equipment with use of technical manuals, schematics, and special tools
- Tests functionality of heavy mobile equipment after all repairs are complete
- Uses dial-indicators, dial calipers, or optical alignment equipment for shaft-to-shaft alignment
- Uses diagnostic or test equipment (e.g., multimeter, ignition timers, tachometers) for testing or inspection
- Uses measurement tools (e.g., hydrometers, dial and vacuum gauges) to diagnose and repair heavy mobile equipment
- Performs scheduled equipment service ranging from minor to major service
- Uses engine analyzers, dynamometers, exhaust analyzers, vacuum, or fuel pump testers to determine the cause of mechanical problems
- Maintains provided updates on heavy mobile equipment inspection plans, manuals, and engineering instructions for compliance with current policies and regulations
- Maintains inventory of farm equipment parts, shop tools, and keep them in proper working condition
- Maintains, assists, and communicates current knowledge on equipment for troubleshooting
- Monitors the repaired machine to make sure it is running properly
- Documents repairs, modifications and inspections in accordance with FAA requirements on both paper and in an automated maintenance information database
- Reads and interprets shop repair orders, original equipment manufacturers manuals, blueprints, schematics, and recalls notifications to verify functionality of heavy mobile equipment
- Differentiates among types of small engines and their applications in order to troubleshoot and solve problems
- Uses testing equipment to find the problem and watch the engine while it is running to find any loose parts or leaks
- Oversees the ordering of all parts for farm equipment needing repair
- Understands the principles and applications of various engines and machinery used in agriculture and identifies common agricultural machinery and implements
- Fabricates new metal parts, using drill presses, engine lathes, and other machine tools
- Uses basic measuring instruments for heavy mobile equipment operation
- Reassembles machines and equipment following repair, testing operation and making adjustments, as necessary
- Uses basic tools (e.g., wrenches, sockets, torque wrenches, brake tools, screwdrivers, air and electric power tools) to repair or to make manufacturer approved modifications to heavy mobile equipment
- Interprets contract data, condition codes, blueprints, and drawings to determine if additional heavy equipment modifications are required
- Identifies parts needed and orders in a timely, cost effective manner
- Documents the repairs they make and the parts they use in order to calculate a bill
- Diagnoses cause of fuel, oil, water, or air leaks to repair heavy mobile equipment
