- Markets and sells farm products such as fruit, vegetables, dairy and grain
- Monitors staff rosters, hours, performance and resolves any grievances
- Directs or assists with the adjustment or repair of farm equipment or machinery
- Develops planting and harvesting plans and schedules, as well as ensuring that staff understands expectations
- Performs hardscape activities, including installation or repair of irrigation systems, resurfacing or grading of paths, rockwork, or erosion control
- Supervises, monitors and enforces procedures to maintain animal and crop health and welfare
- Treats animal illnesses or injuries, following experience or instructions of veterinarians
- Trains workers in techniques such as planting, harvesting, weeding, or insect identification and in the use of safety measures
- Reads inventory records, customer orders, or shipping schedules to determine required activities
- Coordinates installation, maintenance and regularly monitoring of irrigation systems
- Evaluates weather or soil conditions and confers with managers, to develop plans or procedures, or to discuss issues such as changes in fertilizers, herbicides, or cultivating techniques
- Supervises a wide range of farm operations including cultivation, sowing, spraying and harvesting
- Drives or operates farm machinery, such as trucks, tractors, or self-propelled harvesters, to transport workers or supplies or to cultivate or harvest fields
- Recruits, hires, or discharges workers including seasonal workers
- Trains workers in animal care procedures, maintenance duties, and safety precautions
- Trains workers in tree felling or bucking, operation of tractors or loading machines, yarding or loading techniques, or safety regulations
