- Applies knowledge of the role of public guardian, public estate, and purpose of a will
- Provides or arranges transportation between sites for the remains, mourners, pallbearers, clergy, or flowers
- Plans and implements changes to service offerings to meet community needs or increase funeral home revenues
- Ensures the care and handling of the deceased is consistent with accepted principles and sound practices of the profession and the direction of the legal representatives of the deceased
- Develops and reviews service plans in consultation with clients and perform follow-ups assessing the quantity and quality of services provided
- Applies knowledge of the legislation and regulatory acts that apply
- Oversees the preparation and care of the remains of people who have died
- Maintains financial records, order merchandise, or prepare accounts
- Carries out all aspects of business operations in a legal and ethical manner
- Cleans funeral home facilities and grounds
- Manages funeral home operations, including the hiring, training, or supervision of embalmers, funeral attendants, or other staff
- Applies knowledge of funeral home procedures and protocols for funerals
- Applies knowledge of matter, solutions, compounds and chemistry
- Applies knowledge of conditions that affect the embalming process
- Monitors operations to ensure compliance with safety or security policies or regulations
- Transports biological or other medical materials
- Fulfills the needs of the legal representatives of the deceased and the bereaved through effective communication skills in a supportive atmosphere
- Performs embalming duties, as necessary
- Plans and implements sales promotions or other marketing strategies and activities for funeral home operations
- Sells funeral services, products, or merchandise to clients
- Maintains effective community / public relations
- Applies knowledge of embalming equipment and supplies
- Applies knowledge of grief and grieving processes and terminology and the psychological value / therapeutic effect of a funeral
- Arranges for pallbearers or inform pallbearers or honorary groups of their duties
- Plans, schedules, or coordinates funerals, burials, or cremations, arranging details such as floral delivery or the time and place of services
- Arranges for clergy members to perform needed services
- Applies knowledge of ante and post mortem changes
- Applies knowledge of the handling of reporting of vital statistics
- Informs survivors of benefits for which they may be eligible
- Removes deceased remains from place of death
- Provides information on funeral service options, products, or merchandise, and maintain a casket display area
- Provides clients with pricing information and prepares contracts
- Receives or ushers people to their seats for services
- Completes and maintains records such as state-required documents, tracking documents, or product inventories
- Plans placement of caskets at funeral sites or places or adjusts lights, fixtures, or floral displays
- Applies knowledge of funeral customs, rituals, cremation, and aquamation practices
- Directs and arranges funeral services and visitations effectively and professionally, consistent with the direction of the legal representatives and sensitive to the needs of the bereaved
- Applies knowledge of death and dying processes and issues particular to various cultures, ethnicities, and religious entities.
- Participates in community activities for funeral home promotion or other purposes

- Directs preparations and shipment of bodies for out-of-state burial
