- Understands how pesticides affects weather and other climatic conditions; types of terrain, soil or other substrate; presence of fish, wildlife and other non-target organisms; and drainage patterns
- Disposes of empty chemical containers
- Understands the relationship of discharge and placement of pesticides to proper use, unnecessary use, and misuse
- Covers areas to specified depths with pesticides, applying knowledge of weather conditions, droplet sizes, elevation-to-distance ratios, and obstructions
- Lifts, pushes, and swings nozzles, hoses, and tubes to direct spray over designated areas
- Identifies and reports equipment malfunctions
- Applies pesticides to control pests having medical and public health importance
- Recognizes relevant pests
- Assists with major maintenance of application equipment and vehicles
- Uses, maintains, and calibrates different types of equipment and understands the advantages and limitations of each type
- Maintains complete and accurate records related to assigned work including work performed, pesticide usage, equipment repair and maintenance, and maintains an inventory of necessary pesticides and fertilizers
- Identifies noxious weeds and undesirable vegetation
- Mixes pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides for application to trees, shrubs, lawns, or botanical crops
- Fills sprayer tanks with water and chemicals, according to formulas
- Identifies pest development and biology as it relates to controlling pest problems
- Selects and properly mixes, prepares and applies appropriate herbicide/insecticide to eliminate weed and ornamental plant problems
- Maintains and repairs all necessary application equipment
- Completes work orders by mixing, applying and recording pesticide applications in accordance with the work orders and applicable laws
- Applies pesticides to standing or running water
- Obtain and maintain the appropriate license for the type of application to be performed
- Recognizes types of pesticides and formulations
- Applies pesticides in and around food handling establishments, human dwellings, schools, hospitals, and industrial establishments including warehouses and grain elevators
- Analyzes common features of pest organisms and characteristics of damage needed for pest recognition
- Understands the compatibility, synergism, persistence and animal and plant toxicity of the formulations and the hazards and residues associated with use
- Applies pesticides to include state, federal and other governmental employees who use or supervise the use of pesticides in the control of regulated pests, such as the Mediterranean fruit fly
- Understand the relationship between the presence of fish, wildlife and other non-target organisms and pesticide application
- Ensures the safety of equipment, private property, and others by following proper safety procedures
- Maintains records per company protocol and submit application records for billing purposes
- Connects hoses and nozzles selected according to terrain, distribution pattern requirements, types of infestations, and velocities
- Identifies weeds and diagnoses plant diseases and problems
- Identifies crop issues in the field while spraying and communicate observations to farm managers and agronomy team
- Mixes, loads, and applies pesticides onto fields in accordance with label required rates and procedures
- Calibrates sprayers and chemical application equipment
- Reviews all chemical labels and SDS sheets for each product in use before application
- Provides safety training to pesticide applicators and others associated with pesticide applications
- Complies with all warnings and instructions including clothing and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
- Drives and operates vehicles such as, but not limited to, small to large pickup trucks, crew cab trucks, and vehicles with motorized spray equipment to various jobsite locations
- Applies pesticides in the production of agricultural crops; animals, such as beef cattle, dairy cattle, swine, sheep, horses, goats, and poultry; forests; ornamental and turf; and seeds
- Plants grass with seed spreaders, and operate straw blowers to cover seeded areas with mixtures of asphalt and straw
- Stores and uses pesticides safely in conformance with regulations of the Environmental Protection Agency and State Department of Agriculture
- Understands instructions, warnings, terms, symbols, and other information commonly appearing on pesticide labels; such as classification of the product and whether it is general or restricted
- Works with land owners and staff in a courteous and professional manner
- Understands factors which influence effectiveness or lead to such problems as resistance to pesticides
- Cleans or services machinery to ensure operating efficiency, using water, gasoline, lubricants, or hand tools
- Utilizes the latest ag technology; GPS, precision ag equipment, computer, and smart phone
- Operates application equipment (e.g., four wheelers, four-wheel drive and one-ton trucks, application delivery systems, shovels, weed eaters, distributes biological controls, etc
- Performs routine checks and preventive maintenance on equipment
- Keeps records, prepares and maintains reports regarding control and use of pesticides
