- Operates lifting or moving devices to move equipment or materials to access areas to be painted
- Removes article from solution and centrifuges, if necessary, to remove excess molten metal before cooling
- Determines setups of equipment and machines by reading production schedules
- Operates and monitors machines which automatically coat wire with non-ferrous metal
- Reads customer or engineering drawings or specifications as related to the processing of customer parts
- Operates and monitors equipment used to impart a rust-resistant finish to metal articles by treating them with chemicals and heating them
- Sprays prepared surfaces with specified amounts of primers and decorative or finish coatings
- Applies rust-resistant undercoats and caulk and seal seams
- Cut metal or other materials using shears or band saws
- Maintains records, checklists and logbooks on equipment, including the documentation of witness strips, QC testing and maintenance
- Applies primer over any repairs made to surfaces
- Immerses objects to be coated or plated into cleaning solutions, or spray objects with conductive solutions to prepare them for plating
- Assures parts are properly prepared for powder coating (remove water, plug, mask)
- Monitors painting operations to identify flaws, such as blisters or streaks, and corrects their causes
- Allows the sprayed product to dry and touches up any missed spots
- Adjusts controls on infrared ovens, heat lamps, portable ventilators, or exhaust units to speed the drying of product between coats
- Positions and feeds materials into processing machines, by hand or by using automated equipment
- Performs equipment maintenance, such as cleaning tanks and lubricating moving parts of conveyors
- Cleans and maintains equipment, using water hoses and scrapers
- Operates and monitors equipment which cleans metal articles in preparation for electroplating, galvanizing, enameling or similar processes
- Sands and applies sealer to properly dried finish
- Pours paint into spray guns and adjust nozzles and paint mixes for proper paint flow and coating thickness
- Packages parts after painted per process sheet
- Rinses coated objects in cleansing liquids and dries them with cloths, centrifugal driers, or by tumbling in sawdust-filled barrels
- Measures or weighs materials, using rulers, calculators, and scales

- Mixes paints to match color specifications or products' original colors, stirring or thinning paints, using spatulas or power mixing equipment
- Operates and monitors electroplating equipment
- Plates small objects, such as nuts or bolts, using motor-driven barrels
- Sets machine, plant, or equipment controls to regulate electric current and temperature of molten zinc, tin, chromium, copper or other non-ferrous metal

- Operates hoists to place workpieces onto machine feed carriages or spindles
- Performs routine maintenance, such as changing pump oil, cleaning valves and cold traps, as well as performing system refurbishing at a defined interval
- Sands vehicle surfaces between coats of paint or primer to remove flaws and enhance adhesion for subsequent coats
- Positions containers to receive parts, and load or unload materials in containers, using dollies or hand trucks
- Operates sandblasting equipment to roughen and clean surfaces of workpieces
- Operates and monitors hot-dip equipment used to coat iron and steel products
- Disposes of hazardous waste in an appropriate manner
- Replaces worn parts and adjusts equipment components, using hand tools
- Immerses articles in plating solutions or sprays article until required thickness of coating has been deposited
