- Investigates automobile accidents and crimes, gathering information and making detailed reports; assumes charge of major incident scenes until relieved, ascertains facts available at the scene, gathering, preserving, and processing evidence
- Conducts criminal and other investigations by interviewing witnesses/complainants/victims, interviewing/interrogating suspects, collecting and preserving evidence, preparing written reports; informs Chief or Supervisor of status of investigations; attends court proceedings to serve as witness and present evidence and other information
- Fosters good police-community relations among residents and civilian population
- Records facts to prepare reports that document incidents and activities
- Responds to emergency calls and routine complaints and disturbances and takes necessary action
- Mediates and resolves disputes between individuals using an appropriate degree of tact and persuasion

- Handles security patrols, civil disturbance, criminal investigation, accident investigation and firearms certification training to local officers
- Investigates illegal or suspicious activities
- Responds to calls for service; makes out initial reports; and investigates and performs follow-up work as needed
- Keeps supervisory employees informed of all pertinent matters through daily activity reports and regular intra-departmental communications
- Monitors entire facility using CCTV while also monitoring all security, access, fire, building and alarm systems
