Ensures film crew/technicians follow safety protocol for all equipment
Engages performers in script analysis through scenic and character breakdown
Coordinates and directs the technical rehearsal with performers, stage manager, prop crew, running crew, light and sound board operators to ensure all technical aspects of the production are running smoothly
Coaches actors in role interpretation and connects to the overall vision of the piece
Coordinates and direct the dress rehearsals/previews
Develops and maintains a creative vision in terms of both physical and verbal action
Demonstrates understanding of the art of acting and the actor’s creative process
Selects and casts performers through the casting process
Hires the director and marquee talent
Develops and guides script read-through (table script) or rehearsal
Articulates and communicates creative vision/interpretation to producer, performers, technicians, designers, and the audience by coordinating all elements to tell a clear and strong story
Oversees all creatives (set and technical designers, makeup and costuming designers, choreographers, musicians, etc.) to ensure their efforts align in telling the story of the production
Demonstrates an appreciation of the unique capability of theatre to synthesize different art forms
Understands the principles of play reading, textual analysis and sound research
Approves productions schedules
Coordinates equipment status with film crew (front and back of line)
Supervises other producers and ensures the production work is within union regulations
Manages the performers selection process for a production
Oversees the creative team to ensure all creative decisions are aligned with the vision
Locates, licenses/secures rights to original/adapted material
Analyzes the script to discover the play/screenplay’s structure and meanings
Secures financing/financial backers for the project
Oversees distribution or box office
Establishes and maintains work and contractual relationship
Demonstrates awareness of the diversity and global dispersion of contemporary varieties of theater, film, performance
Prepare production schedule and daily call sheets
Influences marketing strategy
Sets ticket prices
Provides feedback by reviewing rushes and adjusts production to improve previous shot/take if necessary
Identifies and adjusts FAST-(focus, aperture, shutter angle, and time or framerate)
Identifies acting talent
Ensures legal compliance including copyright law, insurance liability, payroll and tax
Watches gauges, dials, and output to make sure a camera is working properly
Understands the history and language of the theatre
Negotiates and issues contracts
Envisions the play/movie’s atmosphere or mood
Hires the director and sells the hire to production studio or theater
Oversees the final dress rehearsal to ensure production is ready for an audience
Coordinates and directs the run-through process to ensure performers get the flow of the piece and to address issues
Ensures performers limit body movements and maintain balance for frame quality
Ensures production meets competitive goals and projects the intended brand image
Deploys use of camera in any of several different mounts (static, hand-held, dolly, crane)
Manage the set during shoot
Plans the production budget, schedule and methods of delivery
Determines the interpretation to be given to the piece
Determines the ‘blocking’ of a scene in the rehearsal studio assisting actors, stage manager or cameraman in assessing how to shoot the scene when on set or how the performance stage will be utilized
Identifies opportunities for the strategic development of the artform
Creates the framework to actualize the piece in terms of design and theatrical/filming space or locations
Values the contributions of actor, designer, director, playwright and production personnel to the making of theatre
Values aesthetic, artistic and creative approaches unique to the theatrical endeavor

Demonstrates a broad understanding of the nature, function and history of theatre within cultural, social and political contexts
