Position Summary
The CVOR Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA)I s a full performance level professional nurse functioning in an expanded perioperative nursing role providing direct and indirect perioperative patient and family centered care for patients as a member of the cardio-vascular surgical team. The Registered Nurse First Assistant is capable of assuming the role of 1st Scrub, 2nd Scrub, or Circulating Nurse during an operation/procedure as long as it is not concurrent with the Registered Nurse First Assistant role.
The incumbent works in collaboration with the surgeon and other health care team members to utilizes standards, guidelines, protocols, and pathways for care delivery to achieve optimal patient outcomes while incorporating differences into the provisions of care to promote safe and therapeutic care for the patient in a holistic and systematic way. Integrates knowledge, skills, and experiences to meet the needs of the patients and surgeon throughout the operation/procedure. Incorporates data and information to continuously improve care and practice to enhance outcomes. Ensures improvements in practice settings by assuming responsibility for self-development.
The CVOR Registered Nurse First Assistant is responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care in the operating/procedure room throughout the surgical care continuum in accordance with scope of practice credentials, privileges, experience, education, and competency verification. Work is performed independently with general supervision of a Nursing Supervisor/Manager and collaborating surgeon.
Required emergency call coverage and response time dictated by EAMC policy.
