- Participates in conducting the activities of a survey party engaged in topographic surveys, bridge site surveys, aerial control surveys, centerline staking, right-of-way surveys, and establishing references for highway construction
- Provides assistance in the development of methods and procedures for conducting field surveys

- Sets up, adjusts, operates, inspects surveying equipment, including electronic total station, data collector to measure distances, elevations, angles, and other data, in order to collect survey data
- Processes data from manual or electronic field books
