- Evaluates the quality of training courses and implements improvements
- Oversees the quality of delivered training sessions by external vendors
- Uses appropriate techniques to manage group dynamics and ensure participants are engaged (e.g., varied levels of socializing, such as individuals, pairs, small groups, or whole group activities)
- Maintains records of training and development activities, attendance, results of tests and assessments, and retraining requirements
- Develops training materials that are accurate and legible; if using tools such as PowerPoint, trainer uses best practices for developing PowerPoint slides (e.g., slides are not text heavy; slides have consistent theme/font; fonts are easily readable)
- Plans training courses and sessions
- Develops and conducts multiple training programs to meet organizational training needs
- Uses a variety of training methodologies (e.g., lecture, discussion, visual presentation) to keep participants interested and engaged in training content
- Manages and facilitates group discussions
- Assesses training and development needs through surveys, interviews, focus groups, and communication with managers, instructors, and customer representatives
- Uses training evaluation methods with participants to get feedback on training activities, content, and effectiveness in meeting learning objectives and training facilitation
- Provides inputs to the training strategy and the development of specific training development plans
- Negotiates contracts to universities and technical institutes for continuing education for individual employee
- Uses knowledge of adult and adolescent education training theories, models, methods and the application of these in both principle and practice to develop training programs, materials and delivery methodologies
- Serves as lead for a small team of staff development and training technicians and specialists
- Interprets, applies and communicates a variety of policies, procedures, and regulations related to staff development
- Develops unique training programs to fulfill workers specific needs to maintain or improve job skills
- Ensures instructors have current information and training materials
- Demonstrates adaptation of training to meet individual needs of participants (e.g., assesses what participants already know and adjusts approach to build on existing knowledge and skills, filling gaps in understanding and helping participants connect training content to existing knowledge)
- Evaluates program effectiveness through assessments, surveys, and feedback
- Uses small groups to facilitate opportunities to share thoughts about training content, reflect on how information relates to their own practices, and generalize what is taught across multiple contexts/settings
- Assists in writing policies, procedures, rules and regulations governing various training programs
- Effectively sets up LCD projector, SMART board, tablets/iPad, or other technologies, as needed or works with media specialist and technology personnel
- Creates and/or acquires training procedure manuals, guides, and course materials
- Presents training and development programs using various forms and formats including group discussion, lecture, simulations, and videos
- Applies knowledge of various training platforms (individual, classroom instruction, on-line training, etc.) to ensure appropriate training platform is deployed to best deliver content
- Identifies training needs and training gaps in the organization in a close cooperation with the HR Business Partners and line managers
- Negotiates contracts for purchase of training services from outside vendors to deliver a block of training
- Prepares and implements training budget; maintains records and reports of expenses
- Applies principles of adult learning to training development and delivery
- Identifies the typical stages in the development and mastery of new knowledge and skills and develops training materials that promote sequential development
- Cooperates with the Career Development Specialists to design programs for high potentials and future leaders
- Provides sensitive and constructive feedback that supports the needs of individuals and deepens understanding of the group
- Responds to participants’ verbal and nonverbal signals
- Arranges the training room to promote interactions among participants (e.g., small groups, pair-and-share) and to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities
- Provides counseling to individuals regarding personal or career development
- Models and/or articulates the procedure/process of the activity before encouraging participants to join in
- Prepares training manuals and training offers for employees and managers
- Assesses training materials prepared by instructors
- Meets and works with members of various department heads in determining training needs
- Incorporates individual and cultural differences (e.g., immigration, culture, age, professional status) that can impact learning preferences and should be considered when developing strategies to meet those needs
- Prepares teaching plans, and materials, identifies objectives, and provides instructions for multiple work units in a variety of training disciplines which include and encompass all levels of work
- Identifies the importance of critical reflection and self-directed learning, demonstrates understanding of how to adjust the training approach for participants that do not share these values (i.e., values such as autonomy and individuality in learning experiences that are closely linked with western thinking; biases toward individuality and autonomy may isolate or seem irrelevant to members of communal cultures)
- Uses a variety of audio/visual support to deepen participants’ learning experiences (e.g., charts, graphs, workbooks, note-taking handouts, dry erase boards, posters, PowerPoint presentations, video clips
- Manages the portfolio of contracts with external vendors and introduces changes to the Standard Terms and Conditions
- Develops and administers a training evaluation program and makes recommendations for change or improvement
- Builds the internal network of internal trainers and organizes the regular Train the Trainer sessions
- Uses principles of conflict resolution to reduce tension and de-escalate resistance (e.g., works to elicit reasons/rationales and beliefs from participants, and helps to negotiate resolution)
- Uses a variety of strategies during a training session to create a positive climate for collaboration and engagement
- Prepares training modifications to ensure coverage of content in case of equipment failure
- Identifies and incorporates regulations that impact training and development activities
